11TH GRADE CONTEMPORARY WORLD HISTORY
This class starts with the events that lead up to World War II and goes all the way up to the present day. Did you know that Adolf Hitler di not have to declare war on the United States after the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor? His Treaty with Japan only required Nazi Germany to come to Imperial Japan's aid in the event that they were attacked. So why would he choose to make such a blunder that would ultimately seal the death warrant for Nazi Germany. Watch this video on Hitler's reasoning for why Germany must go to war with America, chose two or three reasons that you think are his biggest aggravating circumstances for needing war and identify them and explain why you chose them in a one to two page paper that will be due the second day of class on August 26, 2014 for 20 points. You may have to watch the video two or three times but don't worry, it is short and there is no right or wrong anwser. Be ready to discuss this in class, also take a look at the current events page and you will notice some striking similarities between the past and what is going on in the present right now!
In this course we will study many different cultures and the how different themes of geography guide: Place, Region, Location, Movement, and Human-Environment Interaction. While learning this we will have a common reacurring task throughout the semester. Trying to understand North Korea which by far the most reclusive and confusing culture in modern day 21st century society. Watch this YouTube Video (ALL 3 PARTS) and using one of the themes listed on the definition webpage, in no more than six, but no less than 3 paragraphs, describe an aspect of the reclusive state by showing how it fits in with a certain theme. Be ready to discuss the video in class on the second day; your paper will also be due on August 26, 2014 and is worth 25 points.
Sigmund Freud is known as the " founding father of psychology." He is probably most famous for his controversial Psychosexual Stages of Development that all humans progress through from birth until adulthood. More shockingly is his notion that if one of theses stages is disturbed or the natural process interrupted then that person will have certain difficulties in life tailored to whatever stage was interrupted. Read the web link on the stages and then type a short 5 paragraph essay on whether or not you agree with these stages. There is no right or wrong answers for this, everyone will receive 20 points for their essay, but be prepared to discuss and defend your reasoning in class.
